WELCOME TO IMMATURUS: THE STUDENTS' OWN THEATRE!

WHO ARE WE?

The Student Theatre "Immaturus" is a theatre organisation run by and for students. Established in 1990, we have ever since played a major part in the cultural scene of Bergen, providing students with theatrical practice and entertainment. Furthermore working in Immaturus is a stepping stone for many young talents towards a professional career within theatre. Currently no theatrical education is offered in Bergen, and Immaturus aims to fill in this gap. We offer a great range of activities related to theatre both on-stage and backstage alongside our productions. Annually we do two major performances. Parties and gatherings are also part of our community; we strongly emphasize the social aspect of working with theatre. Working for Immaturus is as much fun as it is a growing experience!

ACTIVITIES

Actors

Unfortunately we do not have any activities for international students with the desire to work as actors. All our productions are performed in Norwegian, and therefore we require our actors to speak Norwegian.

Production Crew

Still, we encourage you to contact us if you are interested in working with theatre! We have a range of positions within the theatre and the productions that do not require acting as a primary skill: We can offer you to do poster design, make-up, scenography, props, direction, lighting, music etc. - because theatre is more than just acting; every production needs a crew to back its actors in order to make the play come alive!

Activity Groups

We also have five different activity groups. Each group deals with a certain aspect of theatre, but they also allow themselves a certain freedom from the constrains of ordinary theatre work; for instance, The Writers Guild (No. Skrivegruppa) have sessions of creative writing which has absolutely no connection with scriptwriting at all, although they also work with small pieces or entire plays on request from Immaturus. A short description of each group follows:

The Writers Guild (No. Skrivegruppa): Have weekly gatherings to present texts and receive feedback. They work with new projects from week to week, but can also be requested to write scripts that will be staged.

Impro Theatre (No. Teatersport): The keyword is improvisation. From weekly workshops, the group aims at improving their communicative and performing skills; creativity and teamwork are combined to provoke the timing needed when working with impro. Last semester they performed at several events.

The Dance Group (No. Danseteater): This group works with dance as their main way of communcation; they use words when words are adequate, and body language to transcend the boundaries of our everyday parlour. The group is open to everyone.

The Radio Theatre (No. Radioteater): Recently established, this group works with radio as their stage, using sound to create their images. Annual productions are broadcasted in co-operation with The Student Radio of Bergen.

The Independent Theatre (No. Teateroperatørene): This is the group for theatre enthusiasts. They gather to work on small scale projects - weekly, monthly, annual - and they are open to suggestions and ideas from the members.
